Equator women of the world Festival - September and October

The Equator Festival - initiative of Shiva Nova director Priti Paintal goes from strength to strength, having been founded in 2007! Luckily still retaining Arts Council support the Festival once again presents a stunning and original programme in London with two 'all dayers on  September 22nd and October 20th at Kings Place. There are three brilliant  events each day and day passes available, effectively three for the price of two. .

A highlight involving founder Women in Music member Shirley Thompson is called Windrush on September 22nd

2018 marks the 70th anniversary of the SS Windrush’s arrival with passengers from the West Indies seeking a new life in Great Britain and planning to help rebuild a broken nation. With instrumental music, spoken word and video, composer/artistic director Shirley J Thompson and guest musicians and composers bring narratives and memories from the Windrush experience.

Also on the 22nd there is Tsungai Tsikirai is an award-winning singer–songwriter and dancer from Zimbabwe, now based in the UK. With her southern African group Flame Lily Arts she brings a vibrant combination of dance and music influenced by the legendary sounds of Miriam Makeba, Brenda Fassie and Angélique Kidjo.
